Financial services; not the industry with the best reputation for being the most diverse, across any measure.
We all know the stats; that the average adviser is aged 58 (this somehow seems not to have changed since I started in the industry 20 years ago!). That only 16% of advisers are female. That ethnic minorities, people from a low socio-economic background and the LGBTQ+ community are all woefully under-represented.
But wait there’s more. A survey of the fintechs in our sector showed that less than 10% of them were founded by, or even are now run by, women. Plus, if we look to compliance, 96% of senior manager functions are held by men. Which is crazy.
